Cabrillo Advisors is a diversified financial services firm headquartered in San Diego, California, serving successful private and public companies nationwide. We serve our 1200+ clients on matters of accounting, finance, and strategic consulting. The Compliance team serves government agencies, universities, and other non-profit institutions on matters of operational effectiveness, budgeting/forecasting, compliance, and audit. Our understanding of the unique compliance and control requirements has made us essential to the successful management of grant processes.
We are currently seeking a Senior Accountant to support the firm’s growing Compliance team. Our ideal candidate is client service-oriented and proficient in grant/contract management (award accounting and closeouts), has strong ownership of processes, and high attention to detail. Successful candidates must be excellent communicators, have a strong understanding of Excel, and experience working within different accounting systems. Specific work experience in university, non-profit, and government accounting/finance/audit roles is strongly preferred.

Job Responsibilities
Project Management
- Participate in the planning of the client engagement and researching financial related issues.
- Identify and communicate risks and potential changes in accounting policies.
- Perform operational reviews and present the results of audit and special projects effectively via written reports and oral presentations to management.
- Perform calculations for allocations and grant budget analysis according to schedules.
- Investigate and explain budget variances for revenue and expense items.
- Reconcile and prepare financial reports with accuracy; complete journal entries as required.
- Facilitate, prepare, and submit interim and final reports for various stakeholders.
- Provide insights and recommendations to deliver strategic objectives and fiscal targets.
- Communicate frequently on work status updates, deadlines, and client feedback.
- Provide training, instruction, and guidance to staff and clients as needed.
- Maintain the highest standards of ethics and privacy with clients while cultivating business relationships and opportunities.
General Activities
As a Senior Associate, you’ll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve intricate business matters from strategy to execution. As such, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Develop new skills outside of comfort zone.
- Act to resolve issues which prevent the team from working effectively.
- Manage a variety of viewpoints to build consensus and create positive outcomes for all parties while upholding the firm’s code of ethics and business conduct.
- Simplify complex messages and topics by highlighting and summarizing key points.
- Manage engagement deliverables (such as financial statements, work papers, etc.) and ensure that they are on time and on budget.
- Proactively address concerns, brainstorm solutions, and be able to handle confidential matters in a time sensitive environment.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher degree in business related fields.
- CPA license preferred.
- Knowledge in risk, assurance, and/or non-profit industries preferred.
- 5+ years working with advanced Excel, information systems, financial analysis/reporting.
- 4+ years in operations, budgeting/forecasting, compliance and/or audit.
- Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity and dependability.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
- Excellent time management and consultation skills to work with partners and staff on a variety of projects with varying deadlines.
